Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep gratitude to Ghanaians for the opportunity given him to serve the country as President.

A day after the newly elected President Nana Akufo-Addo was sworn into power, Pres. Mahama in a post on social media expressed his appreciation to the populace for his time in power. He described it as a rare honour and privilege for him to have served in the highest office as President.

At 12 midnight on January 6, 2017, President John Mahama completed his tenure of leadership at the dissolution of Parliament for the constitution of a new one. Following this, an inauguration ceremony was held at the Black Star Square in Accra on January 7 to officially swear in President Akufo-Addo.

John Dramani Mahama until January 6, 2017, served as President of Ghana from July 24, 2012, after serving as vice for his predecessor, President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.
